While many of us are affected by the current COVID-19 pandemic, some people are suffering more. Aside from poverty, many of our brothers and sisters are displaced–or what we call refugees.

A study from the University of Birmingham shows that many forced migrants and refugees are afraid of seeking medication because they might get deported. Apart from that, they are currently living in isolation with other felons, which contributes to their fear and anxiety. In the Philippines, particularly in Mindanao, many people have fled their homes because of ongoing wars and the tumultuous earthquakes that displaced many of these individuals.

There are many organizations that help many of our refugees in the darker side of the world, and one of them is this profound initiative organized by 150 well-established and emerging artists from all corners of the globe, called Choose Art | Give Light to Refugees.

Choose Art | Give Light to Refugees is an international online silent art action supporting their chosen charity, helprefugees.org. All the money raised from the art auction will go to Help Refugees. Art patrons, curators, gallerists, and art lovers alike are invited to attend the online auction, which will run from June 8th until June 29th.

Founded by Nicky Ginsberg, a long-standing gallerist and Director of NG Art Creative Residency (France), the project has brought together an esteemed curatorial team, including international art historian, curator, and Consulting Director of Drawing Projects UK Gary Sangster (UK). A high-profile honorary committee of international art patrons, philanthropists, collectors, curators, writers, and academics also supports Choose Art | Give Light to Refugees.

“During this global pandemic, the support of the world is crucial in achieving our goal, ultimately raising funds to help refugees and artists who have also been severely impacted by this outbreak. Placing them on an international online stage for all to see, will further generate interest to their work, sales and new audiences whilst supporting those in need with the most basic sanitary necessities and conditions,” said founder Nicky Ginsberg.

Choose Art | Give Light to Refugees is open from Monday 8th June to Monday 29th June and can be accessed via website Galabid | Choose Art Give | Light to Refugees
