I’m not sure if you’ve already heard of Netflix’s Sing On! or if the Game Show was suggested to you by the streaming platform, but you are definitely missing out if you still haven’t watched a single episode!

What is Sing On!?

So, let me get you through the basics. Sing On! is a Reality Game Show on Netflix hosted by Tituss Burgess (of Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt), which premiered on September 16, 2020.

What happens in the game is that six contestants who can all sing will perform five songs under a theme. They should sing the songs accurately–as close to its original recording of the song by its original artist, so the winning contestant should be able to have or close to perfect pitch, beats, and rhythm.

A vocal analyzer judges how each of the contestants has done, but the singers themselves will also have to judge their co-contestants. They get to choose who to eliminate during the first three rounds.

The Prizes at Stake

The winner can bring home up to $60,000, depending on how everyone did during the whole duration of the contest. Hence, the contestants, while singing, should be able to tell who’s the one losing the money for the group.

Aside from the main prize, there are two other special prizes to be given. One is the “Tituss Prize” worth $500, which Tituss will honor to the person who gives the best performance. Another is the “Golden Note” in the second to the final round, which the contestants can get if they hold on to a particular note of the song (while still being in the right pitch and accuracy). The two special prizes can be brought home by the contestants even if they get disqualified in the next round/s.

Reasons Why You Should Watch Netflix’s Sing On!

1. It’s Entertaining

Everything in the whole game is entertaining. You listen to different singers and even judge and root for them. There’s also a surprise and nerve-wracking element whenever the contestants start choosing which one to eliminate.

I have read that the game format is close to the game show, The Weakest Link. While I didn’t see it, I know that it’s one of the most popular shows on TV, so I believe that many people would also enjoy Sing On!

2. It’s Interactive

You, as a viewer, get to see how the contestants did, based on the vocal analyzer on the screen, except on the last round. Aside from that, you can sing along with the singers. It’s an excellent show to bond over with friends and family.

3. It Might Help Improve your Singing

If you’re looking to improve your singing ability, the show might make you realize that practice makes perfect. More practice is the key to be able to achieve perfect pitch and rhythm. All the six contestants in each episode can sing, but many of them don’t really get the pitch right. If you’re someone who wants to fine-tune your singing skills, this show will make you more conscious of how you’re doing.

4. It’s Hosted By Tituss Burgess

I discovered Tituss Burgess after watching Netflix’s Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt. I fell in love with his character, and I became an instant fan of him. Tituss is still taking Hollywood one step at a time, and I was hoping to see him in more projects after Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt ended, so I was so delighted that Netflix chose him to host Sing On!

It’s obvious that the reason why he was chosen was that he has a perfect pitch. Aside from that, getting him as the host would promote Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt further even if it had already ended. However, I was surprised that he makes an incredible host! Tituss is vibrant and passionate. My father is already a fan of his after watching an episode!

If you’re also a Tituss fan like me, then you have to watch this so you’ll see the real Tituss (that’s different from Tituss Andromedon from Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt).

Grammarly

Netflix’s Sing On! is about Accuracy.

As I’ve said, all the contestants on Netflix’s Sing On! can sing, albeit some of them don’t get the perfect pitch in certain songs. Hence, this show might be kryptonite for someone who loves singing but who can only hit a few notes or no notes at all.

While the creators tag the show as a karaoke contest, it’s not mainly about the contestants having fun and singing their hearts out. The game is outright in its objective to make them sing within perfect pitch and accuracy to the original song’s recording.

The show is also not an originality contest. It can disinterest other viewers who are yearning for novelty. If you’re looking for a show that is for originality and performance, then you should go for a talent show like America’s Got Talent instead.

Despite all that, the show has its own unique twist, and me and my family enjoyed it a lot. There’s no doubt that you will too! I highly recommend it.

Conclusion

Again, watch the show, and I promise you that you’ll be hooked. I’m even thinking of watching Sing On! Germany and Spain, but I am also hoping that they produce a Philippine version of it since everyone knows that a lot of Filipinos can sing, and the game will be a great challenge for them. A celebrity edition of the game would also be exciting!
