Aussie songwriter Lenka returns with a soulful new pop single, “Sunshine Girl,” announcing her upcoming album Good Days, set for release on May 29 via Skipalong Records. The track arrives as Lenka enters a new creative chapter — one shaped by motherhood, reflection, and a renewed sense of optimism. Alongside the release, she has shared the official video directed by Dave Jenkins, Jr.
“I started writing these lyrics when I was on a walk with my kids. As usual I had been trying to sugar-coat some terrible news from the world, keeping a sunny disposition whilst feeling down-hearted,” Lenka shares. “Truth be told I am a moody bitch, but with a lifelong attempt at projecting and manifesting optimism. The musical style for this song was somewhat influenced by 60s French chanteuses and Serge Gainsbourg.”
Recorded in Sydney with producer Tony Buchen (Troye Sivan, Courtney Barnett, Tomberlin), Good Days delivers an atmospheric, soul-tinged pop sound with plenty of horns, strings, and layered vocals. The album marks a return to old-fashioned simplicity where musicianship and songwriting lead the way, allowing authenticity to shine through.
Across the album, Lenka leans further into her identity as a whimsical indie-pop storyteller — blending theatricality, warmth, and introspection — while sending out a message of hope and love in an uncertain world.
Lenka’s unique blend of emotive, finely-crafted indie pop has long resonated with audiences across Asia, where her music found a devoted following well before the age of TikTok virality. From sync placements in global hits like Moneyball and Grey’s Anatomy to widespread use across regional TV and advertising, her songs became quietly embedded in everyday pop culture across Southeast Asia.
Her nostalgia-tinged sound and heartfelt songwriting have in recent years brought her back to the region for multiple headline runs — including sold-out shows across Jakarta, Kuala Lumpur, Hong Kong, Bangkok, and Singapore — reaffirming that Lenka is no stranger to Southeast Asian audiences, both old and new.
With Good Days, Lenka has created some of her most vibrant and emotionally resonant music to date — embracing both lightness and vulnerability in equal measure. Recorded largely live in the studio with minimal edits and effects, the album captures a sense of immediacy and human connection, offering comfort amidst an increasingly chaotic world.
