In a major announcement for the global music industry and fans worldwide, Netflix and HYBE have unveiled plans for a landmark BTS comeback event and an accompanying documentary film, marking the full-group return of the superstar septet.
The centerpiece is “BTS THE COMEBACK LIVE | ARIRANG,” a live global concert special that will stream exclusively on Netflix on March 21, 2026, at 8 PM Korea Standard Time (4 AM PST / 7 AM EST). The event will be broadcast live from the historic Gwanghwamun area in Seoul, South Korea, celebrating the release of BTS’s highly anticipated fifth studio album, ARIRANG, which drops on March 20, 2026.
This live performance, directed by Hamish Hamilton and produced by Done + Dusted, is noted as Netflix’s first-ever live global broadcast originating from Korea. It will feature members RM, Jin, SUGA, j-hope, Jimin, V, and Jung Kook performing together on a global stage for the first time since completing mandatory military service. The event is described as a ticketed offering, with further details on access to be released at a later date.
Complementing the live spectacle is “BTS: THE RETURN,” a feature-length documentary film scheduled to premiere on Netflix on March 27, 2026. Directed by acclaimed filmmaker Bao Nguyen (The Greatest Night in Pop), the documentary is produced by This Machine and HYBE, in association with EAST Films.
The film promises intimate, behind-the-scenes access, chronicling the group’s reunion in Los Angeles as they create the ARIRANG album. According to an official synopsis, it will follow BTS “as they come back together to begin a reunion set to be etched in pop culture history,” exploring their process of reconnection, artistic reflection, and navigating their identity as global icons after a period of individual growth and service.
This dual announcement solidifies the planned return of one of the world’s most popular musical acts. The ARIRANG album and livestream kickstart a previously announced massive world tour slated for 2026-2027. The tour is scheduled to span 34 regions across Asia, North and Latin America, Europe, and the Middle East, encompassing 82 shows.
The live event expands Netflix’s growing portfolio of live programming, which includes sports, music, and award show specials. The BTS documentary adds to the platform’s robust library of music and performance films.
