For millions of Overseas Filipino Workers (OFWs), the Christmas season can be marked not by the sounds of celebration, but by the quiet distance from family. This year, Coca-Cola sought to bridge that gap with SoundOfHome.FMโa special 24-hour Christmas broadcast that carried the voices of home directly to Filipino workers overseas.
The initiative began with a nationwide โCaroloke Caravanโ that traveled to Pasko festivals across Luzon, Visayas, and Mindanao, inviting families to record personal messages and favorite carols for their loved ones abroad. Through both in-person recordings and a dedicated digital platform, a moving collection of dedications was createdโparents sending encouragement, children singing for a parent they miss, spouses sharing affection across the miles.
On Christmas Day, these heartfelt messages became the core of a unique radio broadcast aired in Australia, interwoven with beloved Filipino carols. For OFWs tuning in, the familiar songs were joined by an unexpected and deeply personal sound: the voices of their own families, bringing comfort, surprise, and emotional connection through the airwaves.
To honor these moments, Coca-Cola released the documentary-style film, โSound of Home,โ capturing the raw, emotional reactions of OFWs as they heard their familyโs recordings for the first timeโa mechanic pausing in his workshop, a store clerk holding back tears, a kitchen worker breaking into a smile at a simple, loving reminder.
โBehind every OFW is a Filipino family waiting for Christmas to finally feel complete,โ said Frenissa Lagman, Senior Director for Marketing at Coca-Cola Philippines. โWe created SoundOfHome.FM from a place of deep respect for their sacrifice. Our hope was to offer even a small piece of homeโa familiar voice, a song, a reminder that they are never forgotten.โ
Nikhil Panjwani, Executive Creative Director at OpenX, added, โWe wanted to bring a moment of comfort, a small piece of home to Filipinos overseasโsomething to remind them that their love and dedication are seen and valued. That is the real spirit of Christmas.โ
The initiative reflects Coca-Colaโs enduring commitment to fostering genuine human connection, especially during the holidays. By turning voices into vessels of love and memory, Coca-Cola celebrated the unbreakable bonds of the Filipino familyโproving that home is not just a place, but a sound, a song, and a voice that travels across any distance.
