The team behind Futurama proved their animated series isn’t the only thing that keeps coming back from the dead, as the cast and creators joked about their improbable history of cancellations and revivals during Saturday’s uproarious Comic-Con panel. “You are the collective superhero who has saved us so many times in the past,” executive producer David X. Cohen told the devoted crowd, referencing the show’s multiple network deaths and streaming resurrections. This time, the Planet Express crew returns September 15 with Hulu’s first-ever Futurama binge drop – all 10 episodes of Season 13 at once – before continuing their two-episode weekly airings on FXX.

Creator Matt Groening joined Cohen and the voice cast – including Billy West (Fry/Professor/Zoidberg), Lauren Tom (Amy), and Maurice LaMarche (Kif) – for a lively table read of Season 13’s sixth episode, followed by teases about what’s ahead. The 2026 season finale will finally delve deeper into Fry’s childhood with his brother, a relationship that’s remained largely unexplored since the iconic “Jurassic Bark” episode. “We’re going to work that gold mine a little bit more next year,” Cohen hinted, though he remained tight-lipped about other guest stars beyond revealing NBA phenom Victor Wembanyama’s appearance in the season premiere.

The panel embraced the show’s chaotic energy, from Phil LaMarr (Hermes) and David Herman (Scruffy) riffing on absurd plotlines to an impromptu appearance by Mad TV alum Orlando Jones, who posed a “time travel ethics question” about Fry’s questionable fashion choices. The quick-witted responses mirrored the show’s signature blend of heart and humor, which has kept it thriving despite its rocky network history.

Season 13 promises classic Futurama madness: Bender goes rogue, a volcano threatens annihilation, Fry faces romantic competition for Leela, and – in perhaps the most shocking twist – Dr. Zoidberg ascends to heaven. With Hulu reporting the series among 2024’s top 10 streaming originals and two more seasons confirmed through 2026, it seems this future-set comedy has finally found its ideal present. As Cohen joked about the binge model: “You just sit down and watch each episode eight times!” For Futurama fans who’ve waited through multiple cancellations, that sounds like paradise.

Futurama Season 13 premieres September 15 on Hulu and FXX.
