The beloved animated series Bob’s Burgers is flipping the patty on tradition as it approaches its landmark 300th episode this fall, with creator Loren Bouchard revealing at San Diego Comic-Con that the milestone installment will serve as a heartfelt origin story for the struggling burger joint. In a special flashback episode, viewers will travel back to the chaotic early days of Bob and Linda’s restaurant venture – with a very pregnant Linda and a perpetually nauseous Bob (who “keeps throwing up in the kitchen” while overwhelmed by orders) just trying to keep their dreams afloat. The present-day framing device finds Bob agonizing over whether to raise burger prices, sending him spiraling into nostalgia about their humble beginnings.
Bouchard and the voice cast – including H. Jon Benjamin (Bob), John Roberts (Linda), and Kristen Schaal (Louise) – celebrated the surreal achievement of 300 episodes across 15 years, with Benjamin quipping “Yeah, look what happened!” when Bouchard marveled at their longevity. The team also previewed upcoming holiday specials, including a Halloween episode featuring Teddy getting embroiled with a creepy cult next door (Fleabag’s Jamie Demetriou guest stars) and a Christmas installment set in a festive village. In other season highlights, the delightfully unstable Gail will “get married for an art piece” with Teddy officiating – because of course she will.
Fans can soon bring the show’s distinctive charm home with The Art of Bob’s Burgers art book (out September 23) celebrating the series’ millions of pencil sketches, plus new merch including aprons and recipe collections. Bouchard closed the panel by thanking fans for their passionate online engagement: “I love your kind words when you choose to go on Reddit or wherever…in these times especially, kind words are wonderful.” After 300 episodes of weird, warm humor, the Belcher family’s underdog spirit clearly still resonates as strongly as ever.
Bob’s Burgers airs Sundays on Fox. The 300th episode premieres this fall.
