Brooklyn-based sustainable fashion pioneer Zero Waste Daniel is joining forces with Disney Entertainment Television to celebrate four decades of laughter, friendship, and groundbreaking television with a special tribute to The Golden Girls. Launching July 31, the collaboration brings together Daniel Silverstein’s signature upcycled designs and the enduring legacy of television’s most beloved quartet through a limited-edition 25-piece capsule collection and a fully transformed flagship store experience in Brooklyn. For Silverstein, the project is deeply personal—a love letter to a series that shaped his understanding of friendship, resilience, and fearless self-expression.
“The Golden Girls were a North Star to me growing up,” says Silverstein, the creative force behind Zero Waste Daniel. “They were funny, fearless, and unapologetically themselves, tackling tough topics with heart and humor in ways that still resonate today. Their bond as a chosen family was revolutionary, and as a kid, I felt that warmth. Now, getting to honor their 40th anniversary through fashion feels like the ultimate full-circle moment.”
The gender-free collection reimagines the show’s iconic aesthetic through Silverstein’s bold, sustainable lens. Each piece is a wearable tribute to Blanche’s Southern charm, Rose’s St. Olaf innocence, Dorothy’s sharp wit, and Sophia’s no-nonsense wisdom. Standouts include handmade mosaic portrait garments featuring the Girls’ faces crafted in Silverstein’s signature textile style, a “St. Olaf 40” varsity jacket nodding to Rose’s earnest quirkiness, and playful graphic tees declaring “I’m a Blanche” or “I’m a Sophia” with pride. Cheesecake-covered sweatshirts and vibrant banana-leaf-print bombers channel the show’s Miami energy, while couch-cushion florals and embroidered one-liners add layers of nostalgia for devoted fans. Every item is crafted from 100% upcycled materials, staying true to Zero Waste Daniel’s commitment to sustainable fashion.

From July 31 through August 17, the brand’s Bushwick flagship (257 Varet Street) will undergo a full transformation into a Golden Girls fantasy—part Miami retirement home, part Brooklyn art installation. Pastel-hued interiors draped in banana-leaf wallpaper, retro lounge furniture, and vintage accents will recreate the show’s iconic living room, while photo-ready vignettes pay homage to unforgettable moments from the series. A curated thrift section styled after the Girls’ most memorable looks invites shoppers to embrace their inner Blanche or Dorothy, while subtle soundscapes and scent styling complete the immersive experience.
The celebration arrives as Disney Entertainment Television marks The Golden Girls’ 40th anniversary, reminding new and longtime fans why the series remains a cultural touchstone. Premiering in 1985, the Emmy® Award-winning sitcom followed the adventures of Dorothy (Bea Arthur), Rose (Betty White), Blanche (Rue McClanahan), and Sophia (Estelle Getty) as they navigated life, love, and cheesecake in Miami. Its groundbreaking humor and heartfelt storytelling earned it 11 Emmy Awards, including two for Outstanding Comedy Series, and secured its place as one of Variety’s 100 Greatest TV Shows of All Time. Today, all seven seasons continue to find new audiences on Hulu.
For Zero Waste Daniel, the collaboration is more than a pop-up—it’s a testament to how art, sustainability, and storytelling can intersect. “This isn’t just about nostalgia,” Silverstein emphasizes. “It’s about celebrating a show that taught us to embrace who we are, to choose our family, and to find joy in every chapter of life. Just like The Golden Girls, we’re making something lasting out of what others might overlook.”
The Golden Girls x Zero Waste Daniel collection launches online and in-store July 31 at zerowastedaniel.com, with the immersive experience running through August 17. All seven seasons of The Golden Girls are available to stream on Hulu.
