Opens August 6 in Philippine Cinemas
Searching for your perfect match? Professional matchmaker Lucy (Dakota Johnson) guides others to love but faces her own crisis in director Celine Song’s romantic drama Materialists. Her heart is torn between an ideal suitor—Pedro Pascal’s charismatic millionaire Harry—and her flawed ex.
Materialists follows Lucy, whose expertise in creating marital bliss meets chaos when Harry—a man embodying her every romantic criterion—enters her life. Complicating matters is a sudden reunion with ex-boyfriend John (Chris Evans), whose financial struggles contrast with their profound emotional history.
Director Celine Song knew Pascal was destined for the role after an intimate conversation: “Pedro and I spoke deeply about love’s sacred yet demanding nature—how it tests us. In that moment, I realized Harry stood before me.”
Pascal drew inspiration from silver-screen legends to craft Harry’s charm: “I channeled Harrison Ford in Working Girl, George Clooney’s timeless appeal, even Cary Grant’s wit.” Song emphasized Harry’s likability was crucial: “He couldn’t be a villain or caricature. Pedro’s vulnerability makes Harry achingly human—an ‘open wound’ we adore despite his perfection.”
Fall for Materialists when it opens in Philippine cinemas on August 6.
