Opens August 6 in Philippine Cinemas
Searching for your perfect match? Professional matchmaker Lucy (Dakota Johnson) guides others to love but faces her own crisis in director Celine Songโs romantic drama Materialists. Her heart is torn between an ideal suitorโPedro Pascalโs charismatic millionaire Harryโand her flawed ex.
Materialists follows Lucy, whose expertise in creating marital bliss meets chaos when Harryโa man embodying her every romantic criterionโenters her life. Complicating matters is a sudden reunion with ex-boyfriend John (Chris Evans), whose financial struggles contrast with their profound emotional history.
Director Celine Song knew Pascal was destined for the role after an intimate conversation: “Pedro and I spoke deeply about loveโs sacred yet demanding natureโhow it tests us. In that moment, I realized Harry stood before me.”
Pascal drew inspiration from silver-screen legends to craft Harryโs charm: “I channeled Harrison Ford in Working Girl, George Clooneyโs timeless appeal, even Cary Grantโs wit.” Song emphasized Harryโs likability was crucial: “He couldnโt be a villain or caricature. Pedroโs vulnerability makes Harry achingly humanโan โopen woundโ we adore despite his perfection.”
Fall for Materialists when it opens in Philippine cinemas on August 6.
