ABC has given a straight-to-series order for the Scrubs reboot, bringing back fan favorites Zach Braff (JD), Donald Faison (Turk), and Sarah Chalke (Elliot) for the 2025-2026 season. Original creator Bill Lawrence will executive produce alongside returning writers Tim Hobert and Aseem Batra, who will serve as showrunners for the revival.

The new chapter of the beloved medical comedy will follow JD and Turk as they reunite at Sacred Heart Hospital, navigating modern healthcare while their iconic bromance remains unchanged. According to the official logline, the series will blend fresh faces with legacy characters, delivering the same mix of heartfelt humor and absurdity that defined the original.

Lawrence expressed his enthusiasm: “‘Scrubs’ means so much to me. I’m thrilled to get the band back together.” Braff, Faison, and Chalke will also serve as executive producers, with more original cast members expected to join. The revival marks a full-circle moment for the series, which aired on NBC (2001-2008) before concluding on ABC (2009-2010).

This pickup strengthens ABC’s comedy slate, joining Abbott Elementary and Shifting Gears, as well as the newly ordered 9-1-1: Nashville. The network bypassed traditional pilot season this year, opting instead for targeted straight-to-series orders.

Fans can expect the same whimsical tone and emotional depth, now updated for today’s medical landscape. Will the Janitor return? Will Cox’s sarcasm cut deeper than ever? #ScrubsReboot is coming—and Sacred Heart’s doors are open again.

(20th Television produces; Lawrence remains under his Warner Bros. TV deal.)
