Bente Productions presents its debut feature film I Remember You, marking the directorial debut of visual artist and author Boboy Yonzon. This romantic drama, set against the backdrop of Boracay’s evolving landscape, stars acclaimed actors JC Santos and Valeen Montenegro in a poignant story of love, regret, and renewal.
Inspired by true events, the film follows Gani (JC Santos), a dedicated bank employee sent to save a struggling microfinance branch in Boracay. The island holds painful memories for Gani – years prior, his ambition caused the collapse of his engagement to Debbie (Valeen Montenegro). As Gani immerses himself in helping local small business owners survive economic hardships – a core mission of producer Bente Productions and its parent organization, microfinance leader CARD MRI – he finds unexpected solace with Isay (Sarah Panguiton), a resilient single mother. Just as a new relationship blossoms, Debbie unexpectedly returns to Boracay, forcing Gani to confront his past: Is this a second chance with Debbie, or the beginning of a new chapter with Isay?

Director Boboy Yonzon founded Bente Productions specifically to tell stories of disadvantaged communities. “The first offering hews closely to real events,” Yonzon explained. “What stood out was what really happened in Boracay with the bank and the people it serves. The challenge was making it a feature film.” The solution was centering the narrative on universal themes of love – for family, community, and partners – amidst struggle. For the leads, Yonzon sought authenticity: “We wanted someone low-key but amiable for Gani – someone who could seem sad amidst a party. For Debbie, we needed someone aristocratic-looking who might seem snobbish but is actually ‘kalog’ (fun-loving).”
JC Santos, known for powerful performances in films like Family Matters (2022) and 100 Tula Para Kay Stella (2017), embodies Gani’s earnest dedication: “I am always drawn to heroic characters passionate about helping those in need. I enjoy exploring why they are so driven.” Valeen Montenegro, celebrated for comedic roles in Bubble Gang and Love. Die. Repeat (2024), showcases her dramatic range as Debbie: “What drew me is how real she is. She’s strong but soft, confident but searching. She wants the truth, ready to face it no matter how painful.”
Yonzon hopes the film resonates deeply: “In a complicated world, we need to recognize struggles and, within our power, help ease them. We hold hands with viewers in acknowledging this.” Valeen adds, “It’s a film that deserves to be felt. You’ll witness Boracay’s beauty and the characters’ emotional journeys – not just about love, but healing, timing, second chances, and real-life struggles like financial sacrifices.” JC emphasizes the broader message: “Beyond love and second chances, it’s about a man’s passion to help his community.”
I Remember You, a story for those daring to hope amidst life’s challenges, opens in cinemas nationwide on July 9, 2025.
