Hulu’s untitled crime thriller from New Girl creator Liz Meriwether – loosely reimagining Bob Rafelson’s 1987 neo-noir Black Widow – has solidified its principal cast. Rising star Lola Petticrew (Say Nothing, Dating Amber) and veteran character actor Scoot McNairy (A Complete Unknown, Halt and Catch Fire) will join leading lady Emmy Rossum (Shameless) in the tense cat-and-mouse drama, Variety confirms.
Petticrew takes on the pivotal role of Catherine, described as “a lethally cunning serial killer targeting wealthy men, whose traumatic past fuels her vendetta while evading NYPD and FBI pursuit.” McNairy will portray Danny, “a sharp but emotionally frayed NYPD Homicide Detective hardened by years on the job, whose personal entanglements complicate the manhunt.” Rossum stars as the FBI agent leveraging Catherine’s secrets to track her down.
Acclaimed director Brian Kirk (Game of Thrones, The Day of the Jackal) will helm the first two episodes and executive produce, bringing his signature atmospheric intensity to Meriwether’s darkly psychological script. The project, announced in March and produced by 20th Television and Searchlight TV, expands the original film’s premise of a widow murdering her wealthy husbands into a modern exploration of trauma and justice.
