Alan Shirahama Leads the Charge in the PRODUCE 6IX COLORS Project!

Japanese boyband GENERATIONS has unleashed their latest digital single, “Two Steps Back,” on April 7th, and it’s a sonic journey you won’t want to miss! This track marks the third installment in their ambitious PRODUCE 6IX COLORS project, a six-month creative endeavor where each member of GENERATIONS takes the helm to produce a brand-new song.

This time, the driving force is none other than their leader, Alan Shirahama, who teamed up with Grammy-nominated Asian-American producer, songwriter, DJ, and musician, Shintaro Yasuda, for sound production. Based in Los Angeles, Yasuda’s impressive credits include Ariana Grande’s “Off the Table” and “Dream” from BLACKPINK’s LISA’s “Alter Ego” album, bringing a global soundscape to the project.

“Two Steps Back” weaves a captivating tale of love’s intricate tactics and the delicate dance of distance between partners. The song’s infectious, repeating hook and rhythmic beats create a compelling blend of sorrow and a hot, contemporary sound. To further enhance the track’s unique vibe, illustrator Nui crafted a visually stunning lyric video, lending a cool, retro aesthetic reminiscent of the 1990s.

A Look at GENERATIONS’ Journey:

GENERATIONS burst onto the scene in November 2012 with their debut single, “BRAVE IT OUT.” Since then, they’ve consistently pushed boundaries, embarking on world tours in 2015 and 2017, and captivating audiences with domestic arena tours. Their 2017 world tour paved the way for their first domestic dome tour the following year. In 2019, they achieved a monumental feat with their GENERATIONS LIVE TOUR 2019 “Shonen Chronicle,” drawing a staggering 460,000 fans across five domes. They capped off the year with the first of three consecutive appearances on NHK’s prestigious New Year’s Eve program, “Kohaku Uta Gassen.”

Their influence extends beyond music. In April 2024, GENERATIONS were appointed as Taiso Nippon Support Ambassadors, and their song “Endless Journey,” released in May 2024, was chosen as the official support song for the Japanese gymnastics team at the Paris Olympics in July, as well as for all gymnasts across Japan.

At their GENERATIONS LIVE TOUR 2024 “GENERATIONS 2.0” BONUS STAGE COUNTDOWN PARTY year-end concerts, the group unveiled six exciting new projects, with the PRODUCE 6IX COLORS project taking center stage. Alongside these releases, fans can anticipate an electrifying arena tour across Japan in the fall. “Two Steps Back” is just a taste of the creative explosion coming from GENERATIONS, and it’s clear they’re ready to take their sound to new heights.
