Aspiring pilot Gem (Janella Salvador) prioritizes her dreams, while cafe owner JC (RK Bagatsing) finds fulfillment in his present life, in CinePanalo’s “Fleeting.”

Set against Mati, Davao’s scenic beauty, the film explores how two different individuals discern genuine connection from fleeting encounters.

WAF Studios and Mentorque Productions present “Fleeting,” an official Puregold CinePanalo entry, screening at Gateway Cineplex 18, showcasing eight original feature films. Catsi Catalan directs, following her production of “Pushcart Tales” from last year’s festival. Despite her directorial debut, Catalan boasts a robust production background with films like “Kono Basho,” “Uninvited,” and “Under Parallel Skies.”

“Mati’s untouched beauty inspired the film, reflecting fleeting moments often missed in pursuit of success,” says Director Catsi. “It also mirrors a generation prioritizing careers over personal relationships.”

Catalan paired Janella Salvador and RK Bagatsing for fresh chemistry. “Janella embodies Gem’s ambition and vulnerability, while RK’s grounded presence suits JC,” she explains.

Janella relates to Gem’s youth-centric struggles, “It’s a love letter to our generation,” she says. RK identifies with JC’s contentment, “He finds joy in the familiar, appreciating life’s simple pleasures.”

Janella previously worked with Catalan on “Under Parallel Skies,” boasting roles in “Mallari,” “Darna,” and “The Killer Bride.” RK, known for indie and mainstream roles in “Uninvited,” “Love Child,” “Shake Rattle and Roll Extreme,” “Cuddle Weather,” and “Apocalypse Child,” also worked with Catalan on “Uninvited.”

“It’s Mati’s first film shoot,” RK shares, highlighting the town’s beauty and its people. Catalan adds, “It’s under-represented; many are surprised such a place exists. It’s an honor to showcase it.”

The film also promotes Davao’s chocolate capital status, a goal Janella hopes to achieve. “We hope people discover Mati and fall in love with it,” she says.

“Fleeting addresses choosing between love and career, without dictating right or wrong,” Catalan states. Janella advises, “Never stop trying, despite hopelessness. You’ll regret ‘what ifs’.” RK adds, “It celebrates stillness and finding peace in the present.”

“Audiences will see themselves in Gem and JC,” Catalan says. “It reminds us happiness is in the present,” RK concludes. Janella adds, “It’s a struggle to balance dreams.”

“Fleeting” screens at Gateway Cineplex 18 from March 14-25, tickets at PHP250, with discounts for students, PWDs, seniors, and Aling Puring members.

“Fleeting” is for dreamers and those content with the present, a story of seizing the day and finding love in the sky.
