NCT DREAM’s DREAMSCAPE, their latest release, is an exhilarating addition to the K-pop scene, showcasing the group’s artistic growth and versatility. Released digitally on November 11, 2024, via SM Entertainment and Virgin Music, this fourth full-length album builds on the narrative and sonic explorations first introduced in the DREAM( )SCAPE EP from earlier this year. The 11-track album explores themes of escapism, self-discovery, and love, all through a captivating mix of genres that include pop, hyper-pop, house, and R&B.

The album opens with “INTRO: DREAMSCAPE,” a hyper-pop anthem that sets the stage for an otherworldly journey. Its playful, glitched beats give listeners a hint of the twists and turns in the dream-like reality that NCT DREAM invites them to explore. The lead single, “When I’m With You,” follows with an infectious house-based sound that captures the whirlwind emotions of falling in love. Written in part by member MARK, the song’s joyful yet complex vibe is beautifully portrayed in the accompanying music video, which is as visually mesmerizing as the track itself.

Another standout is “Flying Kiss,” penned by HAECHAN, which balances rhythmic pop with rock, giving it a fresh, airy quality. This track, along with “i hate fruits,” delves into the ups and downs of romantic infatuation. “i hate fruits,” written by MARK, creatively likens love to an addictive sweet fruit—highlighting NCT DREAM’s knack for imaginative, metaphor-driven storytelling.

Midway through NCT DREAM’s DREAMSCAPE, the album ventures into darker territory with “No Escape” and “Best of Me,” both grappling with the theme of a nightmarish reality. These tracks give a harder edge to the album and offer listeners a thrilling contrast to the earlier tracks’ lighthearted romance. This darker sequence reaches a turning point with “YOU (숲),” signaling a shift towards hope and resilience.

As NCT DREAM’s DREAMSCAPE nears its end, tracks like “하늘을 나는 꿈 (Heavenly)” and “밤 (Night Poem)” create an ethereal soundscape that embodies the beauty of finding solace in dreams. These tracks reflect NCT DREAM’s signature blend of vocal harmony and emotive delivery, which elevate the themes of self-discovery and personal freedom that run throughout the album. “Off The Wall” injects an upbeat, disco-funk energy into the mix, reminding fans to let loose and enjoy the journey.

The album closes with “Rains in Heaven,” an English single that has already made waves on the UK’s Official Single Sales Chart. Co-written by MARK alongside Adrian McKinnon and British songwriter Bryn Christopher, the track combines lush 80s synth-pop with pristine vocals, bringing the album to a soaring, emotional conclusion.
