TAKEN FROM HIS FORTHCOMING SECOND ALBUM, “IN WAVES,” SET FOR RELEASE ON SEPTEMBER 20TH VIA YOUNG
Jamie xx has unveiled “Dafodil,” the fourth single from his eagerly awaited second album, In Waves, which will be released on September 20th via Young. Nestled at the heart of the album, “Dafodil” is a vibrant, swirling symphony that captures the euphoria of a summer dancefloor. Featuring Kelsey Lu, Panda Bear, and John Glacier, the track has captivated fans for years and was recently performed live by John Glacier during Jamie’s The Floor residency in London.
Commenting on the new single, Jamie xx shares, “‘Dafodil’ was one of the first pieces of music I made for this album. It was the song that made me realize I could finally create another album. I’m forever grateful to Kelsey Lu, with whom this song began as voice notes about a hazy night we both remembered. Thanks to John Glacier and Panda Bear, whose voices perfectly evoke the unique feeling of summer nights in London.”
Kelsey Lu adds, “‘Dafodil’ is a fun ride into a cute, sexy, hazy night in London shared with my dear friend Jamie xx. Memories of my first London summer I’ll cherish forever, now encapsulated for us all to enjoy together. See you on the dance floor.”

Earlier this year, Jamie xx released “Baddy On The Floor,” a joyous collaboration with Honey Dijon, before announcing the album with “Treat Each Other Right,” a breakbeat anthem-meets-futuristic soul burner accompanied by a video from photographer and filmmaker Rosie Marks. In June, he teamed up with Robyn on “Life,” her first major release in six years, a nu-disco affirmation featuring a cascade of horns and filtered loops. These tracks, alongside “All You Children” featuring The Avalanches and now “Dafodil,” offer a glimpse into the forthcoming record’s jubilant spirit.
Jamie xx’s much-anticipated return has been marked by a series of exciting global events over the past few months. During his ten-night The Floor residency in London, which featured unannounced guest appearances from artists like Charli XCX, Romy, Daphni, and many more, Jamie premiered every track from In Waves. His triumphant return to Glastonbury in June saw him joined on stage by Robyn and his The xx bandmates Romy and Oliver Sim for a special performance of the unreleased track “Waited All Night.”
Across the 12 tracks on In Waves, Jamie xx recreates the emotional highs and electrifying unpredictability of a transcendent night out. The album, set to be released nine years after his acclaimed debut In Colour, sees Jamie reuniting with collaborators like Oona Doherty on album closer “Falling Together” and his bandmates Romy and Oliver Sim on “Waited All Night.” Developed over four years, the album captures a journey of self-reflection, the global pandemic’s impact, a reemergence into nightlife, and a newfound love of surfing as escapism. It promises to surpass the success of its predecessor.
In Waves will be available in digital formats, on CD, and multiple vinyl editions. The Deluxe LP will include a bonus 12” featuring previous singles “It’s So Good,” “KILL DEM,” and “LET’S DO IT AGAIN,” along with two exclusive new tracks: “F U (ft. Erykah Badu)” and “Do Something.”
