Talahib People’s Music is set to make waves on the global stage, representing the Philippines with their unique sound and cultural resonance. This year, the celebrated group will record a full-length vinyl album in Japan and embark on an Asian music tour, marking another milestone for ‘Musikang Pilipino.’

Since their formation in 2000, Talahib has been a prominent ambassador of Filipino music, seamlessly blending folk, rock, and world music to reflect local culture and social issues. Their contributions to cultural preservation earned them the Most Outstanding Cultural Workers award from the UNESCO Clubs of the Philippines in 2019.

Under the guidance of longtime artist manager Jaime Hernandez, Talahib recently headlined tours at the Taiwan World Music Festival in Taipei and the Pasiwali Festival in Taitung in 2022. The group will return to Taiwan in April 2024 to participate in the M.I.K. Festival in Kaoshiung and the Austronesian Arts and Music Festival in Hualien City, despite the challenges posed by a recent earthquake.

Talahib’s commitment to cultural and social advocacy extends to various musical engagements, including the Gandingan Awards, Banahaw Tugtugan, Fete De La Musique Philippines, and International Silent Film Festivals. Their performances boldly address critical issues such as land rights, sovereignty, environmental protection, and the rights of indigenous communities.

With notable tracks like Tony Palis’ “Babaylan” and their own “Magkaisa sa Kapayapaan,” “Dam,” and “Domdoma,” Talahib’s music is a testament to Filipino heritage and artistry. Their fiery folk rock, enriched with indigenous instruments, offers a compelling auditory experience that fosters deep pride in Filipino culture.
