SZA, a Grammy-winning, number-one, and multi-platinum-selling recording artist signed to Top Dawg Entertainment, today announced the official release of her brand-new single, “Shirt,” and the Dave Meyers-directed music video that goes along with it.

The 2020 Rodney “Darkchild” Jerkins production has been building anticipation for its release ever since it was first teased. Its Quentin Tarantino-inspired video has the well-known singer showing off her acting skills opposite Atlanta star Lakeith Stanfield (who viewers may recognize from the “I Hate U” visualizer). Fans will get to see more of SZA’s acting prowess in her feature film debut in Eddie Huang’s upcoming film Tuna Melt. From start to finish, she vigorously commands each scene.

The new song comes after the 2022 TIME100 Next cover star received nominations for “Favorite R&B Song,” “Favorite Female R&B Artist,” and “Favorite R&B Song” at the 2022 American Music Awards, as well as nominations for “Best R&B/Soul Female Artist” and “The Ashford And Simpson Songwriter’s Award” for “I Hate U” at the Soul Train Music Awards.

In the summer, SZA released Ctrl (Deluxe), a special revisit to her acclaimed big label debut that was filled with previously unheard music that gave listeners a greater understanding of the cherished story that the original delivered.

Since its debut on TDE/RCA in 2017, the original Ctrl has received five Grammy nominations for SZA and has been streamed over 2.3 billion times globally. Billboard’s R&B Albums chart, R&B/Hip Hop Albums chart, and Billboard 200 chart all saw the now three times RIAA certified Platinum album debut at No. 1 on each respective list. It is the 50th best-selling album of the year overall and the 10th best-selling female album in the nation in 2022 alone when over 600,000 units were sold. SZA has been the first black female artist in history with an album to spend 280 consecutive weeks on the Billboard 200 list thanks to Ctrl’s continued presence on the chart since its release.
