Last March, the Taal Volcano’s continued volatility prompted approximately 1,000 Filipino families to flee to nearby Batangas settlements. These families are still spending their days in evacuation centers around the region, despite the fact that Alert Level 3 is still in effect.
Shopee, the top e-commerce platform in Southeast Asia and Taiwan, worked with many businesses and charity organizations to deliver help to Taal evacuees as part of its mission to bettering the lives of the underserved.
“As we remain steadfast in our commitment to being a force for good, especially in times when Filipinos need it the most, Shopee will work closely with our partners to help provide immediate relief to the evacuees. Our thoughts are with those affected and we hope that the situation in Taal will recover soon for these families to be able to return to their homes,” says Shopee Philippines Director Martin Yu.
Partner brands Universal Robina Corporation, Colgate, and Monde Nissin contributed supplies such as drinking water and food to devastated residents in collaboration with Shopee. Shopee carried and routed donations through the ABS-CBN Foundation’s ongoing on-ground initiatives with the support of its Shopee Xpress fleet and volunteers.
Shopee Xpress volunteers also assisted in the collection and distribution of potable water given by the Luzon Clean Water Development to Batangas evacuation sites.
