Lonely After Curfew was written by Sophia Bel last winter, when the Quebec government imposed a mandatory curfew across the province, as the title suggests.

Fear of abandonment and codependency are explored in this progressive country-influenced pop ballad. Its melody comes together lovingly, resulting in a song in which Sophia Bel discloses her insecurities to the object of her emotions.

Lonely After Curfew examines vulnerability in relationships, combining Y2K themes with the realities of modern-day dating, showcasing a different side of Sophia’s aptitude and inventiveness.

Sophia Bel’s Album, Anxious Avoidant

Sophia Bel’s first full-length album, Anxious Avoidant, will be released on April 15th, 2022, and was written during the epidemic. The album reflects a creative progression in the career of the Montreal-based artist and producer, as it is inspired by the colorful and fun sounds of the early 2000s. She wrote her tunes for the first time with only her guitar in hand. This new method has altered her writing style, as well as the end product, which contrasts well with her previous two EPs.

Anxious Avoidant is a vulnerable story powered by Sophia Bel’s explosive energy as she explores relationships and feelings while rocking to the music that shaped her adolescence. The album, which was produced by Sophia and Tim Buron, is full of sweet ballads, empowering pop-punk anthems, and melodic guitar riffs, as well as a unique and innovative take on Y2K music.
