The number of Netflix subscribers topped 223 million in Q3 of 2022, which translates to 2.8 percent of the global population paying for an account.
However, which nation is watching Netflix the most, and how much stuff has the average person in each nation watched since starting their Netflix subscription?
The 29,793 Netflix watching histories that were uploaded via the Time Spent Streaming feature are the basis for the results.
Key findings
Since opening their Netflix account, the average user has spent:
- 66,175 minutes watching Netflix (1,103 hours or 46 days)
- 10,974 minutes watching Netflix movies (183 hours or 8 days), which accounts for just 16.5% of their overall viewing
- 55,201 minutes watching Netflix TV series (920 hours or 38 days), which accounts for over 83% of their overall viewing.
Which countries are watching the most Netflix?

South Americans watch the most Netflix.
Our findings show that Netflix material is streamed most frequently in South America. Peru, however, earns the label of one of our “greatest binge-watchers.”
Since their initial subscription, Peruvians have watched an average of 118,776 minutes on Netflix. This is over double the norm at 1,980 hours or 82 days. And Argentinians, who have watched an average of 108,476 minutes of Netflix since activating their account, are right behind them. Brazil, Chile, Mexico, and other top nations have all consumed, on average, more over 95,000 minutes.

Interestingly, according to our “Which countries pay the most and least for Netflix? ” study, Argentina and Brazil are among the most affordable countries to get a Netflix (basic plan) subscription. In contrast, the bulk of European nations, for instance, are among the nations that watch Netflix more “casually” and thus frequently fall into our category of “less cost-effective” countries. This means that many of the nations with the most affordable Netflix subscriptions are getting even more value for their money by making the most use of their Netflix subscriptions.
Europeans and Asians watch the least Netflix
Qataris are at the other end of the spectrum, having watched less Netflix content overall. Qataris have watched 1,466 hours (nearly 61 days) less Netflix than Peruvians, who have viewed an average of 30,811 minutes every day.
With an average of 34,416 Netflix viewing minutes, Slovakians came in second place, followed by Maltese (37,745), Lithuanians (37,949 on average), and Hungarians (39,627).
South Americans are binging the most TV series
Despite the fact that all users binge more series than movies, South Americans are the ones who watch the most. With an average of 92,124 minutes, or roughly 85 percent of their total material, Argentinians have seen the most TV programs. However, Singaporeans are the ones that watch TV shows on Netflix the most frequently. The majority of Singaporeans’ Netflix selections (almost 94%) are TV shows, with the typical person watching 59,259 minutes of TV shows as opposed to just 4,018 minutes of movies.
The fact that Singaporeans have the second-highest TV series collection according to our Netflix comparison analysis, may not be a coincidence. Residents of Singapore have access to 2,410 TV series, which is more than 400 more titles than the average user.

The United Arab Emirates’ citizens, on the other hand, watch the majority of movies on Netflix.
The typical Netflix customer in the UAE watched movies on the service for 26.44 percent of their free time. Just a little more than Peruvians, this (26.38 percent).
