Renzo is back with “Tipsy,” his third full release in as few as six short months, just two months after his previous one. The song “Tipsy” is about denial and serves as the capstone to this mini-saga that Renzo has released over the previous several months. It highlights and capitalizes on Renzo’s raw and emotional side as a songwriter. This time, though, he has dispensed with the peppy production and chosen to reduce this song to its most basic components—a piano and his voice—to appeal to everyone’s sentimental side.
Renzo wrote his first song of 2022 on New Year’s Day, “Tipsy,” marking the beginning of the year. He admits that he was pretty inebriated when he wrote the song’s lyrics, thus the title. The song’s sound later evolved into a synthy, power-ballad sort of track with a vocal performance that elicits emotion through the meticulously prepared lyrical plot written out by Renzo. It was originally written as a folk-acoustic track with lyrics created around the song’s title.
Renzo says that learning this song was another step in his learning journey. He said that “Tipsy” was a tune he created as a project for an online workshop he enrolled in at the beginning of the year. “It was a two-part online workshop on a platform called ‘Monthly’ which had Charlie Puth as the instructor.” He explains that it took some time for Tipsy to fully come into its own as a track. “There was a good period of time where I didn’t touch the song at all. It wasn’t until I got onto the second half of the workshop where I decided to revisit the song. I only had a drunken voice memo taken on the 1st of January to go by when I first started fully producing it. Thankfully it was just enough to inspire me to fully flesh out the track for the workshop submission at the time,” Renzo adds.
