A great baritone can feel like a doorway into another world. On Q-NativeIm, Dr. AdeN HoD opens that door slowly, letting acoustic rock, blues, alternative rock, and dark folk drift through. The result is a sound that recalls the melodic alt-pop of the 1990s, the vocal warmth of 1960s pop, and the rhythmic snap of rockabilly, yet remains unmistakably his own. What makes Dr. AdeN HoD unique is his naturally deep baritone voice, an instrument that gives every song weight, intimacy, and a sense of lived experience.
Dr. AdeN HoD is an international singer-songwriter, composer, multi-instrumentalist, and scientist. Raised in former Yugoslavia, in Bosnia along the Drina River, he has lived and worked between Austria and Italy, particularly Trieste and the Adriatic region, and those cultural experiences shape his musical imagination. His album Q-NativeIm, created in Trieste, is a deeply personal artistic vision centered on authenticity, organic sound, and creative independence. The title combines three symbolic elements – Q, Native, and I am – expressing the idea of returning to one’s natural identity.
Musically, Q-NativeIm carries a melodic sensibility reminiscent of 1990s alternative pop, particularly Fools Garden, alongside echoes of the 1960s band The Turtles, known for vocally rich, craftily arranged pop that pushed into psychedelic and folk-rock textures. Dr. AdeN HoD absorbs those colors without imitating them. His baritone delivery pulls the material into darker, more introspective territory, while the album’s pulse carries a rockabilly swing — controlled, deliberate, and quietly infectious.
The album’s tracklist further explores this personal cartography with a rich narrative depth. Songs like the introspective “bubble (of) time,” the uplifting “daily sun,” the global appeal of “song 4 peace,” and the spiritual reflection of “I feel like in heaven” showcase a vast emotional landscape. Q-NativeIm balances these with darker, more complex textures in “dark moon,” “I didn’t know,” and “listen to (the) clock.” Dr. AdeN HoD’s multi-faceted identity is on full display through a spectrum of expressions, from the visceral edge of “broken brain” and personal reflections like “bila juga” and “mama ku mama (song 4 kids)” to the sharp cultural commentary of the closing track, “domovina (parodia).”
That refusal to follow conventional production formulas is central to the project. Dr. AdeN HoD writes his own lyrics, composes the music, performs the instrumental parts, and records his vocals. Working with sound engineer Amirotto, he preserved the original emotional character of his compositions rather than chasing polish for its own sake. His broader artistic palette echoes figures like Nick Cave, Leonard Cohen, Tom Waits, Johnny Cash, John Lee Hooker, The Doors, and Elvis Presley, but his approach remains entirely individual.
The album features predominantly English-language compositions alongside songs in his native language, reflecting his multicultural background. Beyond music, Dr. AdeN HoD holds a PhD and has conducted international research in life sciences, nanotechnology, materials science, and pharmaceutical sciences. For him, science and music are complementary expressions of curiosity, creativity, and the search for understanding.
Released through his independent label, DrahYtime Records (Vienna, Austria) and distributed internationally via DistroKid, Q-NativeIm proves that independence is not a limitation, but a signature. It is alternative rock in spirit, 90s melodic in sensibility, 60s pop in arrangement, and rockabilly in pulse. But above all, it is a showcase for a voice that refuses to sound like anyone else. In an arena of polished formulas, Dr. AdeN HoD offers something rarer: a sound that feels lived in, thoughtful, and entirely his own.
