It’s a brand new day for Peter Parker, but not necessarily a better one.

In Spider-Man: Brand New Day, Peter Parker is fighting crime full-time as Spider-Man in a world that doesn’t remember him. The weight of that loneliness, combined with the heartbreak of watching his old friends move on without him, sparks a change in Peter that he may not have the power to control.

Tom Holland, who returns as the beloved dual role of Peter Parker/Spider-Man, describes the film as “a fresh start, where Peter Parker is experiencing something profound and unique in the super hero genre. It’s a movie about when young people find their identity and become adults. Peter is embarking upon a new chapter.”

A Transformation Unlike Any Other

Director Destin Daniel Cretton, known for his work on Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings, reveals that Peter goes through dramatic changes in the film. “A huge part of the story is watching Peter undergo an emotional and physical transformation,” says the filmmaker. “The two are linked.”

While Peter has his own ways of trying to deal with the emotional turmoil, he needs help to understand the physical changes he’s experiencing. As he begins a startling transformation, he seeks answers from a former fellow Avenger who’s now a distinguished scientist and professor—Dr. Bruce Banner, who of course doesn’t recognize Peter.

The Return of the Savage Hulk

Peter seeking out Dr. Banner for answers sets the stage for an epic confrontation between Spider-Man and Banner’s monstrous alter-ego, Savage Hulk. Gone is the Smart Hulk character that brought intelligence and depth to the Hulk in Avengers: Endgame. Banner is now back to basics—the towering, uncontrollable figure fans know so well from the comics and the earlier films in the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU).

Says Cretton, “To many, the most iconic pairing in the comics is Spider-Man and The Hulk. When we brought back Mark Ruffalo, we gave careful consideration as to what iterations of the character we would see and how to put these two icons together, and what—or who—would cause Bruce to become savage again.”

Mark Ruffalo Returns to the MCU

Mark Ruffalo, who made a brief but memorable appearance in Cretton’s Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings, was eager to work again with the director. Additionally, he relates, “I think the fans will love the idea of Hulk and Spider-Man finally meeting up in the cinematic universe. Their pairings in the comics are iconic and legendary.”

In Brand New Day, “Banner and Peter really hit it off as science bros,” Ruffalo shares. “But things happen…”

Producer Kevin Feige says the long-anticipated cinematic pairing of Spidey and Hulk “was something that really excited all of us, especially that he’s again played by the great Mark Ruffalo, who’s brought out so many unforgettable facets of the character.”

A Star-Studded Cast Returns

Also returning to the franchise are Zendaya, Jacob Batalon, Jon Bernthal, Sadie Sink, Tramell Tillman, and Michael Mando. The ensemble cast brings depth and familiarity to this new chapter, even as Peter navigates a world that has forgotten him.

About Spider-Man: Brand New Day

It’s a BRAND NEW DAY for Peter Parker. Fighting crime full-time as Spider-Man in a world that doesn’t remember him—and the pressure of seeing his old friends move on without him—sparks a change in Peter he may not have the power to control. But that transformation might also be the only thing that can stop a shocking new threat to the city and those he loves—a powerful villain no one can even see. The world may have forgotten Peter Parker, but he hasn’t forgotten them.
