What happens when your quiet suburban street gets ripped from reality and dropped somewhere unknown?

That is the terrifying premise of “The End of Oak Street,” the upcoming thriller from David Robert Mitchell, the acclaimed director behind cult horror hit “It Follows.” Produced by J.J. Abrams, the film follows the Platt family as they fight to survive after a mysterious cosmic event transports their neighborhood to an unrecognizable and dangerous place.

Anne Hathaway and Ewan McGregor star as the parents, alongside Maisy Stella (“My Old Ass”) and Christian Convery (“Sweet Tooth”) as their children. Together, they must learn that sticking together is their only chance at making it out alive.

The official synopsis reads: “After a mysterious cosmic event rips Oak Street from suburbia and transports their neighborhood to someplace unknown, the Platt family soon discovers that their very survival depends on them sticking together as they navigate their now unrecognizable surroundings.”

Mitchell is no stranger to crafting atmospheric, dread-filled horror. His 2014 film “It Follows” became a cult phenomenon, praised for its unique premise and lingering sense of unease. With “The End of Oak Street,” he teams up with Abrams’ Bad Robot production company, promising a blend of indie horror sensibility and blockbuster polish.

Behind the camera, Mitchell reunites with director of photography Michael Gioulakis, editor John Axelrad, and composer Michael Giacchino, whose score is sure to heighten the film’s tension.

“The End of Oak Street” opens only in cinemas and IMAX starting August 12 in international markets, and August 14 in North America.
