The iconic brothers are back and blasting off into space. Chris Pratt and Charlie Day return as Mario and Luigi in The Super Mario Galaxy Movie, the highly anticipated follow-up to the animated blockbuster. Joining them once again are Anya Taylor-Joy as Princess Peach, Jack Black as Bowser, and Keegan-Michael Key as Toad, alongside new additions to the franchise including Brie Larson as Rosalina, who makes her big-screen debut in the film.

This time, Mario and Luigi find themselves launched into an entirely new adventure. After settling into life in the Mushroom Kingdom, a mysterious call for help sends them hurtling off the face of the planet and into unfamiliar worlds. Along the way, they’ll encounter familiar friends, forge new alliances, and face an unexpected enemy—all while uncovering secrets tied to Princess Peach’s mysterious past.

For Chris Pratt, stepping back into Mario’s overalls meant revisiting a character defined by unwavering determination. “He is a little guy, but he never gives up,” Pratt says. “He is unstoppable because he believes in himself. He is not boastful; he just shows up for the people he cares about.” Pratt also drew from personal experience, recalling how he grew up playing the games with his own brother. “The film captures something true about having siblings. You go through everything together. When we were kids, my brother always got to play as Mario. Now I finally get my turn.”

Charlie Day, who voices Luigi, found depth in the contrast between the brothers’ approaches to heroism. “Luigi has that underdog sensibility,” Day explains. “With Mario, you get the classic hero who runs toward danger. With Luigi, you have the guy who says, ‘I want to save the day, but I also do not want to get hurt.’ His innocence is something you root for, because he loves his brother enough to follow him anywhere.” Reflecting on the legacy of the franchise, Day shared how making the film brought back memories of playing the games as a child. “I became emotional remembering how much joy these games gave me. That is the power of this world.”

The Super Mario Galaxy Movie launches in Philippine cinemas on Black Saturday, April 4. Tickets are now available at local cinemas. For updates, follow Universal Pictures PH on Facebook, Instagram, and TikTok.
