San Diego Comic-Con got a double dose of chaos, chrome helmets, and absurdity as Peacemaker stormed Hall H with a raucous Season 2 panel. John Cena arrived in full costume as the morally dubious antihero, flanked by showrunner James Gunn and co-stars Jennifer Holland, Freddie Stroma (Vigilante), Steve Agee, Sol Rodriguez, and newcomers Frank Grillo (Rick Flag Sr.) and Tim Meadows. The highlight? A bonkers trailer revealing that Peacemaker’s midlife crisis goes multiversal—and a new opening dance sequence featuring a Dirty Dancing-inspired lift.
Multiverse Mayhem
The trailer teased a dimension-hopping plot: After a heartbroken Peacemaker flees to an alternate universe (where “the grass is greener”), he faces off against his own doppelgänger—a version of himself who might actually have his life together. Meanwhile, Grillo’s vengeful Rick Flag Sr. hunts him down for killing his son (Joel Kinnaman’s Flag in The Suicide Squad). “This season’s about consequences,” Gunn said. “Peacemaker can’t outrun his past—or himself.”
Opening Credits 2.0
The Season 1 dance routine—a viral sensation—gets a revamp. “We’re not trying to one-up it,” Gunn insisted, before Holland spilled details: “I begged to do the Dirty Dancing lift. And it’s in there!” Grillo, initially reluctant, boasted, “I ended up the best dancer on stage.” Expect new moves, new characters (including Rodriguez’s mysterious addition), and the same glorious lack of self-awareness.
From HBO Max to… HBO Max
The show’s three-year hiatus saw Gunn become DC Studios co-CEO, the DCU reboot (Superman, Creature Commandos), and HBO Max’s identity crisis (Max? HBO Max? Who knows). Cena’s Peacemaker bridged the old and new DCU with a Superman cameo as a right-wing pundit—hinting at his Season 2 role. “He’s still a disaster,” Cena laughed. “But now he’s a disaster across dimensions.”
Premiere Date
Peacemaker Season 2 hits HBO Max on August 21 with eight episodes. Brace for more violence, more Eagles covers, and more of Cena proving he’s the unhinged hero we never knew we needed.
“Fuck yeah, butterflies,” indeed.
