Jason Momoa emphatically stated he had zero involvement in securing his 16-year-old son, Nakoa-Wolf Momoa, a significant role in Denis Villeneuve’s upcoming “Dune: Part Three.” Speaking to Extra at the Kapolei, Hawaii premiere of Apple TV+’s “Chief of War,” the actor—who portrayed fan-favorite Duncan Idaho in Villeneuve’s first “Dune” film and returns for the third installment—praised his son’s independent achievement.
News surfaced in June that Nakoa-Wolf (son of Momoa and Lisa Bonet) and “Silo” star Ida Brooke had joined the cast as Leto II and Ghanima, the twin children of Paul Atreides (Timothée Chalamet) and Chani (Zendaya). Momoa, beaming with paternal pride on the red carpet alongside Nakoa-Wolf and daughter Lola Iolani, made it clear this wasn’t a nepotism hire.
“A rude awakening is what he’s in for,” Momoa quipped about his son’s entry into major filmmaking. “He’s into the workforce for the first time. It’s going to be good. He did it on his own. I don’t want to help him, and he’s done it all on his own, and good for him.” Momoa further highlighted Nakoa-Wolf’s impressive composure, contrasting it with his own early career: “You want your children to be better than you, and I really, actually believe he is. I couldn’t do what he’s doing at his age. There’s no way I could sit in a room with Denis Villeneuve and hold my own. I was on ‘Baywatch’ at 19. He’s 16 and holding shit down with Denis Villeneuve.”
Crediting their parenting approach, Momoa added, “We raised him beautiful. We raised our children… It’s just, you know, being loved and being confident in themselves… That is what he is. He’s very confident.”
Nakoa-Wolf steps into a pivotal role as “Dune: Part Three” adapts Frank Herbert’s “Dune Messiah,” focusing on Paul Atreides’ reign as Emperor. Meanwhile, Momoa reprises Duncan Idaho—the swordmaster who sacrificed himself saving Paul and Lady Jessica in the first film. While Herbert’s novels later resurrect Idaho via cloning, Villeneuve’s specific approach for the sequel remains undisclosed. Momoa’s return confirms Duncan’s continued significance in the unfolding saga, even as his son joins the next generation of the epic’s legacy.
