Coldplay frontman Chris Martin humorously addressed the recent “Jumbotron scandal” involving Astronomer CEO Andy Byron during the band’s Saturday performance at Camp Randall Stadium in Madison, Wisconsin. This comes days after Byron and Astronomer’s chief people officer Kristin Cabot were placed on administrative leave when a viral clip from Coldplay’s Tuesday show at Gillette Stadium in Foxboro, Massachusetts captured them hiding their faces during the band’s customary ‘Jumbotron Song’ segment.
“All right, c’mon, you’re okay—Oh, what? Either they’re having an affair or they’re just very shy,” Martin had quipped in the now-infamous footage as the camera lingered on the visibly uncomfortable executives. During the Wisconsin concert, the 7-time Grammy winner playfully warned attendees: “We’d like to say hello to some of you in the crowd… We’re gonna use our cameras and put some of you on the big screen. So please, if you haven’t done your makeup, do your makeup now.” His remarks sparked immediate laughter from the audience, clearly referencing the incident that has dominated entertainment and business news cycles.
Following the viral exposure, Astronomer’s software startup swiftly placed both Byron and Cabot on leave pending an internal investigation into their conduct. Co-founder and chief product officer Pete DeJoy has assumed the role of interim CEO during this period. The incident unfolded during Coldplay’s signature audience interaction moment, where couples typically share affectionate displays on stadium screens—making the executives’ panicked reaction particularly conspicuous. Martin’s lighthearted follow-up in Wisconsin demonstrates the band’s trademark wit while underscoring the cultural ripple effect of the unexpected corporate scandal.
