According to a report by Variety, Amazon MGM Studios has entered into a multi-year partnership with Sony Pictures Entertainment for international theatrical distribution of four major upcoming releases through March 2026. Sony Pictures will handle the release of these titles across all international territories.

The partnership launches with Luca Guadagnino’s psychological drama “After the Hunt,” starring Julia Roberts, Ayo Edebiri, and Andrew Garfield. The film is set for a limited domestic release on October 10, 2025, expanding on October 17. Sony will subsequently manage international distribution for Timur Bekmambetov’s Chris Pratt thriller “Mercy” (domestic release: January 23, 2026); the Chris Hemsworth, Mark Ruffalo, and Halle Berry heist film “Crime 101” (domestic release: February 13, 2026); and Phil Lord & Chris Miller’s sci-fi adventure “Project Hail Mary,” starring Ryan Gosling and based on Andy Weir’s novel (domestic release: March 20, 2026).

Variety notes that while Sony will handle these four features internationally, the agreement is multi-year. Following “Project Hail Mary,” Amazon MGM plans to establish its own theatrical distribution operations in select overseas territories (locations currently undisclosed). Sony will continue to provide distribution support in international markets where Amazon MGM does not set up its own infrastructure.

This Sony deal covers the majority of Amazon MGM’s near-term theatrical slate. The exception is “Sarah’s Oil,” a biographical drama about oil magnate Sarah Rector scheduled for domestic release on November 7, 2025, which will not be distributed internationally by Sony. Amazon MGM’s first self-distributed international release is expected to be the Colleen Hoover adaptation “Verity,” starring Dakota Johnson, Josh Hartnett, and Anne Hathaway, hitting North American theaters on May 15, 2026.
