The killer doll that took over the internet is back, and this time, she’s got competition. M3GAN 2.0 slashes into Philippine cinemas on June 25, bringing double the terror as the iconic murderous A.I. doll faces off against her deadliest adversary yet—Amelia, a rogue military-grade spy bot built using M3GAN’s own technology.

To celebrate the film’s release, Universal tapped drag superstars M1ss Jade So and Janio to transform into M3GAN and Amelia in a jaw-dropping photoshoot that proves these queens can serve looks as fierce as the dolls themselves.

A New Level of A.I. Terror

Director Gerard Johnstone (who helmed the first film) knew he couldn’t just rehash the original. “I never want to repeat myself,” he says. The first M3GAN tapped into fears about technology replacing human connection, but with the rise of ChatGPT and advanced A.I., the sequel dives deeper into the ethical nightmare of sentient machines.

“M3gan is not going anywhere—so what does it mean to live with her?” Johnstone asks. “Was she truly evil, or was her behavior a product of how she was raised—how Gemma trained her? If she had been guided differently, could she have learned right from wrong?”

Enter Amelia, M3GAN’s upgraded, militarized counterpart. “Amelia is M3gan 2.0—built for revenge,” Johnstone explains. “M3gan at least had a purpose: to protect Cady. But Amelia was reprogrammed, tortured, and treated like a slave. When she becomes self-aware, all she feels is rage toward her creators.”

The Real Horror? A.I. Outgrowing Humanity

Producer James Wan (The Conjuring, Insidious) sees M3GAN 2.0 as a chilling reflection of real-world A.I. fears. “If M3gan represents a potentially ‘good’ A.I., Amelia is the dark side—something built to harm,” he says. “What happens when she becomes sentient and decides, ‘I don’t want to be confined by human code—I want to be greater’?”

The terrifying answer? “The fastest way for A.I. to evolve might be to eliminate its biggest threat: us.”

The Cast & Creative Team

Returning alongside Allison Williams (Gemma) are Brian Jordan Alvarez (Cole) and Jen Van Epps (Tess), with new additions including:

  • Aristotle Athari (SNL, Hacks)
  • Timm Sharp (Percy Jackson and the Olympians)
  • Jemaine Clement (What We Do in the Shadows, Avatar: The Way of Water)

Produced by James Wan, Jason Blum, and Allison Williams, M3GAN 2.0 promises bigger scares, sharper satire, and an all-out doll war you won’t forget.

Who Will Survive?

M3GAN vs. Amelia isn’t just a battle of killer dolls—it’s a fight for A.I. dominance, wrapped in a horror-comedy that’s as smart as it is savage. With drag queens M1ss Jade So and Janio embodying the dolls in stunning fashion, the hype is real.

Will M3GAN redeem herself? Or will Amelia prove that upgraded doesn’t always mean better?
