SE SO NEON, the genre-defying South Korean indie rock project led by visionary musician Soyoon Hwang, returns with “Remember!” – a poignant bilingual single released today in both Korean and English versions. Serving as the second preview of their long-awaited new album ” (out August 15), the track arrives with a self-directed music video shot across Seoul, showcasing Soyoon’s signature blend of raw emotion and cinematic artistry.
Co-produced by Soyoon and Jon Nellen (Nick Hakim) and mixed by Nathan Boddy (Pink Pantheress, Geordie Greep), “Remember!” is an atmospheric journey through grief and self-rediscovery. The track oscillates between hushed introspection and explosive crescendos, mirroring the emotional turbulence of processing loss. Vintage guitar tones swirl with modern psychedelic textures, creating the band’s signature “lo-fi vintage” sound that’s earned them global acclaim.
“Sadly, there are times when I come to understand myself through the death of others,” reveals Soyoon, citing the passing of mentor Ryuichi Sakamoto as the song’s emotional catalyst. “His death left me with a determination never to forget who I am… The way of remembering him is to hold onto this.” This philosophy pulses through every note of “Remember!”, where melancholic verses give way to cathartic, reverb-drenched choruses.
The release marks a creative rebirth for Soyoon, who nearly quit music after 2023’s solo album ‘Episode1: Love’. A transformative 10-hour daily studio regimen in New York City reignited her passion, leading to the album’s prescient title. “I realized I needed to worry less about the future,” she explains. “” is about nature, because I’m from nature.” This ethos permeates the 12-track project, which promises genre-fluid explorations from blues-tinged rock (“Twit Winter”) to synth-pop experiments (“New Romantic”).
With 145 million global streams and recognition from Pitchfork, Paste, and Fender, SE SO NEON continues breaking barriers. Their Southeast Asian fanbase remains particularly fervent, with Jakarta, Bangkok, and Singapore ranking among their top streaming cities. The “Remember!” video’s Seoul cinematography – capturing everything from neon-lit streets to tranquil hanok rooftops – visually echoes the band’s fusion of urban energy and organic introspection.
” Tracklist Highlights:
